Three standard tunnel elements now in place

August 6, 2026

The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link has reached another major milestone with the successful immersion and connection of the project’s third standard tunnel element.

From tow-out to final connection, every immersion is the result of months of planning and the coordinated efforts of teams working both offshore and onshore. At 217 metres long and weighing approximately 73,500 tonnes, each standard tunnel element must be transported, positioned and lowered into the tunnel trench with exceptional precision. Guided by the automated control systems of the immersion pontoons Ivy1 and Ivy2, this latest installation also became the deepest standard tunnel element immersed so far.

With three standard elements now securely connected on the seabed, the project continues to gather pace. Every installation adds valuable experience, helping prepare the team for the next major step: the immersion of the first special tunnel element.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone whose expertise, commitment and collaboration made this achievement possible. Another milestone reached, and the next chapter is already underway.
