Mind your mental health

The HS&WE department was behind the FLC Safety Days held from May 19–24, which turned out to be a great success. Mental health was one of the main focus areas with muscular warm-up exercises, mindfulness, acute stress management by a specialist with a background in the Danish military, workshops on mental health and training in wellbeing and reduced stress by focus on sleep. A psychologist, an ergonomist, and other presenters delivered engaging and highly relevant talks, training sessions, and workshops – all of which were met with great energy and genuine interest from many FLC construction workers.

”Our approach to safety is an evolving process where we continuously highlight new focus areas. One of these is mental health – because a safe working environment starts with workers who are mindful, well-rested, and ready for the day ahead. We also believe it’s important to speak openly about mental health,” explains Vincent Le Roy, HS&WE Manager at Femern Link Contractors (FLC). He continues: ”Tools like mindfulness, healthy sleep habits, and stress management help us to stay focused and safe – and most importantly, mental health should never be a taboo subject. Talking about how we feel and supporting each other is just as much a part of creating safe routines and procedures as wearing a safety helmet or following safety rules. Our top priority is making sure everyone on site is equipped – both mentally and physically – to take care of their own safety and the safety of those around them.”
