An exciting start to 2025: First two tunnel elements from our factory floated up

The two 73,500-ton standard elements were carefully floated up from the skidding beams position in upper Basin A and transferred to lower Basin A.

Safely floating and transferring each 217-meter-long element for The Fehmarnbelt Project, required weeks of meticulous preparation and close collaboration among multiple teams, including Outfitting, Marine Operations, Immersion Master, Immersion Engineers, Basin Supervisors, Winch Operators, and Linesmen.

The float-up operation used high-capacity pumps, to raise the water level to +10.4m above sea level and achieve the float-up.

During the subsequent stages of the transfer, water levels are managed and finally lowered back to sea level at the current position in lower Basin A.

A total volume of approximately 975,000 m³ (975 million litres) of water was pumped to ensure this high-precision operation at a massive scale in a safe and controlled manner.

In the next stage, the element will be floated out of Basin A and transferred to the ballast concrete jetty within the Work Harbour.
